We Reduce, Re-use, Re-cycle

Reduce : The motel runs solar water heaters to reduce the electricity usage for water heating. These are the large silver cylinders on the roof.

Re-use : Our guests have the option of re-using their bath linen if they prefer.

Re- cycle : We are recycling soft drink bottles, milk bottles ,glass bottles , plastic containers and cardboard.

Water : There is no town water supply, chemically treated or otherwise in Russell.

We operate off pure rainwater when possible, but when necessary we draw from a bore on our property. An Ozone water treatment plant treats both water supplies, the water is safe to drink

Pohutukawa Tree

At the entrance to our motel stands a beautiful Pohutukawa tree. It is the only protected Pohutukawa tree in Russell. Pohutukawa trees are endemic to New Zealand.

They are sometimes called “Christmas trees” in New Zealand because they are covered in bright crimson flowers in December and January.
